Our scope

Concept, mechanical design and drawing documentation

01 — Challenge

Simpler, more ergonomic seat assembly

Forklift truck assembly needed a solution for handling seats weighing 17 kg. The main challenge was to relieve the worker of lifting and carrying the seat by hand and to make it easier to move the seat into position.

02 — Solution

Pneumatic gripping with balancer support

We designed a clamping device that grips the seat with a pneumatic cylinder. Suspended from a balancer, it lets the worker move the seat without having to lift its weight by hand. We provided the concept, the design in Fusion 360 and the drawing documentation, which we delivered within 12 weeks of the brief.

03 — Approach

01

Concept design

Designing the principle for gripping and handling the seat, to make it easier to move during assembly.

02

Device design

Developing the design in Fusion 360 with pneumatic gripping of the seat and suspension of the device from a balancer.

03

Drawing documentation

Preparing and delivering the drawing documentation within 12 weeks of the project brief.

Outcome

17 kgseat weight the assembly worker no longer has to lift by hand

The device is already in operation and spares the assembly worker from lifting a 17 kg seat by hand. Pneumatic gripping combined with the balancer makes it simpler to move the seat into position in the assembly process.
